…facing your giants…

Giant Rock

In life there are giants. What are yours? And what are you going to do about them?

Giants can be seen in the form of competition, circumstances, relationships, or in any other facet of life that you can think of. For this blog, we are going to define a giant as anything that stands between you and your goals. I’m writing this post to give a little insight into the giants we face in life and the difference between being a giant killer or a giant loser.

Let’s paint the picture…Business is good! Life is good! Everything seems to be going according to plan and then all of the sudden out of left field comes some unexpected giant (obstacle, setback, impossibility, etc.). It pops up its head and says, “Look at me…I’m here to kill your dream… I’m the reason you won’t succeed…I’m really big and shiny and I’m going to make you fail” Now I know this sounds kind of childish, but isn’t that really how it happens?

So, here’s the deal. We are faced with an opportunity. “Chris,” you might say, “How could a giant that seemingly will destroy everything I have worked so hard for possibly be an opportunity?” Well, here is the little secret that the giant doesn’t want you to know….It can be beaten…and not only can it be beaten, but a giants sole purpose is to be beaten. We were all given the potential and ability to accomplish things in life greater than our biggest imagination, but as the old saying goes, “Nothing great is ever accomplished without great resistance”…because if there wasn’t great resistance would the accomplishment really be that great..

So how do we beat the giants? The first thing I recommend is a nap. “What,” you may say. The whole point is this…when something tries to set us back we are usually frustrated, anxious, mad, and about 20 other things all at the same time…and that is the worst time to take on our giants…so, the first thing is to get calmed down…do whatever you have to do to get back to a level head…for you it may be working out, or taking a drive…just get back to a calm state…

Now evaluate with a fresh mind….Confront the brutal reality of your situation and then defeat your giant…If it is a business giant…say maybe competition that you didn’t expect…then innovate….be creative…stretch yourself…Most great achievements came at the point of a giant. How many people have given up only five inches away from success?

Giants are necessary. Yes, I know this is painful, but it is reality. So, choose your fate. Choose your attitude. If I had to guess for the reasons giants were even created. I would say that it was to give the small guys the ability to do bigger things than they imagined…Giants are merely a stepping stone in the journey to success…so, the next time you are faced with what looks to be an insurmountable obstacle, remember all giants were created to be defeated…its not the end, its an opportunity to do more than you first imagined…its not a dream killer, it’s a dream builder!
